چکیده

Azospirillum sp. are bacteria beneficial to inoculated plants, and the effect is partially attributed to gibberel lin production. Deutero-labelled GA9 was fed to dy mutant rice-dwarf seedlings inoculated with A. lipoferum or A. brasilense and/or treated with Prohexadione-Ca, an inhibitor of late steps in gibberellin biosynthesis. According to the shoot growth response, the mutant showed the ability to perform 3?-hydroxylation of the d2GA9 fed. This ability was partially blocked by Prohexadione-Ca, suggesting that GA9 may have some activity per se . After the feeding was done along with Azospirillum sp. inoculation, the bacteria performed 3?-hydroxylation as shown by shoot growth promotion and corroborated by GC-MS detection of d2GA3. The growth promotion was blocked by Prohexadione-Ca but in a lower extent as compared with non-inoculated controls, suggesting that the inhibitor worked on the 3?hydroxylation performed on the substrate fed but on the microorganism capacity to produce “active” gibberellins. Azospirillum spp . metabolize [ 17 , 17 -

; Azospirillum spp. are endophytic bacteria with beneficial effects on cereals — effects partially attributed to gibberellin production by the microorganisms. Azospirillum lipoferum and Azospirillum brasilense inoculated to rice dy mutant reversed dwarfism in seedlings incubated with [17,17-H2]GA20 with formation of [17,17H2]GA1, showing the in vivo capacity to perform the 3 -hydroxylation. Azospirillum brasilense and Azospirillum lipoferum hydrolyze conjugates of GA20 and metabolize the resultant aglycones to GA1 in seedlings of rice dwarf mutants.

Azospirillum species are plant growth-promotive bacteria whose beneficial effects have been postulated to be partially due to production of phytohormones, including gibberellins (GAs). In this work, Azospirillum brasilense strain Cd and Azospirillum lipoferum strain USA 5b promoted sheath elongation growth of two single gene GA-deficient dwarf rice (Oryza sativa) mutants, dy and dx, when the in...

Impact of Azospirillum sp. B510 Inoculation on Rice-Associated Bacterial Communities in a Paddy Field

Rice seedlings were inoculated with Azospirillum sp. B510 and transplanted into a paddy field. Growth in terms of tiller numbers and shoot length was significantly increased by inoculation. Principal-coordinates analysis of rice bacterial communities using the 16S rRNA gene showed no overall change from B510 inoculation. However, the abundance of Veillonellaceae and Aurantimonas significantly i...

Cryptochrome and Phytochrome Cooperatively but Independently Reduce Active Gibberellin Content in Rice Seedlings under Light Irradiation

In contrast to a wealth of knowledge about the photoregulation of gibberellin metabolism in dicots, that in monocots remains largely unclear. In this study, we found that a blue light signal triggers reduction of active gibberellin content in rice seedlings with simultaneous repression of two gibberellin 20-oxidase genes (OsGA20ox2 and OsGA20ox4) and acute induction of four gibberellin 2-oxidas...

Chemical structure of the cell walls of dwarf maize and changes mediated by gibberellin.

Dwarf maize (Zea mays L.), a mutant deficient in gibberellin synthesis, provides an excellent model to study the influence of gibberellin on biochemical processes related to plant development. Alterations in the chemical structure of the cell wall mediated by gibberellin were examined in seedlings of this mutant. The composition of the walls of roots, mesocotyl, coleoptile, and primary leaves o...
